1. DETAILS OF MY SEARCH FOR
CLASSIC POOH COUNTED CROSS STITCH PATTERNS
September 23, 2001
I started looking for Classic Pooh counted cross
stitch patterns in June 1998, when my niece asked me if I knew where to find Classic Pooh
counted cross stitch patterns. She was married October 1998. I knew that their plans
included having children and that she wanted at least one Classic Pooh counted cross
stitch for the wall of her future baby's room. I made them Christopher
Robin and Pooh prepare to discover the North Pole for Christmas 1999.
She and her husband had a wonderful baby boy on May 11, 2000, and I'm told by them that it
looks great in his room. Unfortunately I've never seen it on their wall since she
lives on the East Coast and I live on the West Coast.
( Note: I've asked her to send me a picture of the finished project so I can scan it
and put a copy on this web page.)
When I did my search in June 1998, I was so happy
when I found Susan's Classic Pooh
Cross Stitch Resource Page through the Friends of Pooh webring.
Susan's web site was so helpful; that's how I found out about the book that I bought (see details about the book below)
For information about Classic Pooh counted
cross stitch charts and kits, visit Susan's
Classic Pooh Cross Stitch Resource Page.
In June 1998 when I did a search on Yahoo for classic
pooh counted cross stitch, the results were very disappointing (except for Susan's Classic Pooh Cross Stitch
Resource Page).
However, today, September 23, 2001, when I did a
search for classic pooh counted cross stitch, I found the following web sites
that carry Classic Pooh counted cross stitch kits. Quite an improvement!
- Sew
and So
- Teddy
Bear UK
- Cronus
Cross Stitch
- SMart Craft Winnie the Pooh
Collection
- BritStitch.com - Classic Characters 2
- Petit Point - Children's Classics 1
In 1998 I bought the book StoryBook Favorites in Cross Stitch***
that is mentioned on Susan's web site. It contains the following three Classic Pooh
charts (as well as charts of Beatrix Potter, Paddington Bear and various others):
- Autograph Book (with small
picture of Pooh, Tigger, Rabbit, Owl and Piglet with their signatures).
- Christopher Robin and
Pooh prepare to discover the North Pole, with Christopher Robin putting
on black boots (see image #2 below).
- Pooh and Piglet walking toward sunset
(see image #3 below).

StoryBook Favorites in Cross Stitch
My only criticism about the
chart: there were a LOT of what I call 1/4 and 3/4 stitches, which made it a real
challenge. But it was worth the extra effort, because there are no sharp edges in the
finished item.

*** Please Note
In 1998 I was able to easily order
the book StoryBook Favorites in Cross Stitch from www.Amazon.com; however since shortly afterward,
it's been out of stock.
On Friday, September 21, 2001, when I
checked Amazon's
web page about the book, that web page said "limited
availability."
Unfortunately when I checked Amazon's
web page about the book again two days later (on Sunday, September 23, 2001),
it showed:
Availability: This title is
currently out of stock. However, you can order
it used now
If you're interested in this book,
suggest you check with Amazon periodically and/or fill out their form to order
it used. You can specify how long you want them to look for the used
book.
Or do a search for out of print
books and try one of those web sites.
Another suggestion is to check with
your local library to see if they have a copy. A friend of mine found one in her
local library. |

4.
FAQS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. I am searching for a Classic Pooh Birth Sampler and was wondering if, in
your search travels have you ever seen one?
A. In my extensive searching for Pooh counted
cross stitch, I have never seen a Classic Pooh birth sampler.
However, in February 2003 I received an e-mail letting me know that Disney offered a kit
in 1997 or 1998 with Classic Pooh as a birth sampler. We agreed to let each other
know if we ever find it.
(If anyone else knows of any Classic Pooh birth announcements, I'd appreciate your letting me know.)
I have seen several birth announcements
with Disney Pooh on the following web pages:
- http://www.crossstitchzone.com/books/63125.htm
- http://www.salt-and-pepper.com/ChPooh.htm
- Hello Little One Birth Announcement
- The Winnie the Pooh Birth Sampler
You might want to view those designs for the
placement ideas for the suggestions I've listed below.
Here are some of my suggestions to make a Classic
Pooh birth sampler:
- Use the 5 Classic Pooh characters in the Autograph
pattern in the book titled StoryBook Favorites in Cross Stitch (mentioned above).
Arrange them similar to the Beatrix Potter characters in Jemima Puddle-Duck Birth Sampler
and Peter Rabbit Birth
Sampler.
Note: August,
2002:
I've decided not to use this idea for my niece's new baby girl because I don't like
working with so many 1/4 and 3/4 stitches.
See below for link to my web page listing links
to many, many other birth announcements on the Internet.
- Choose a Classic Pooh pattern/kit you like and put
the text above and/or below the design. NOTE: If you buy a kit, you might want
to use a larger piece of Aida cloth so you're sure that the design with the added
text will fit.
- Make the Balloon
kit (as shown on and put the text inside the balloon (if it fits) or around
Pooh instead of the bees.
- Buy the letter or alphabet kit (as shown on *http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran15-0.html). Then select
a few of the characters from the kit, placing them around the edge where you think
appropriate for a birth sampler. Put the text in the center.
- Combine the four small kits (as shown on *http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ran15-0.html)
into one design (one character on each corner) and place the text in the center.
Maybe put bees or honeypots in between the characters.
- Butterfly Tigger
- Butterfly Pooh
- Butterfly Piglet
- Butterfly Eeyore
On second thought, this probably would not work
since the design might be too big!
August, 2002: Since I'm not especially happy with any of my suggestions
for a Classic Pooh birth announcement, I decided to look for other (non-Pooh) counted
cross stitch birth announcements on the Internet. I thought I'd share my results
with others, since I put so much time into looking for patterns I like. Hope you find this
useful.

Cross Stitch) - List of Counted Cross Stitch Patterns & Kits I Found on
